3D Neopac wins two IFCA Star Awards 2023

3D Neopac has been honored with two prestigious Star Awards in the categories ‘Innovations Leading to Sustainability’ and ‘Best Branding through Packaging’ categories for tubes housing personal care products from CavinKare and Tata Trent. The awards were presented by the Indian Flexible Packaging & Folding Carton Manufacturers Association (IFCA) in its 2023 competition on Friday, October 27, 2023.

Sustainability at the forefront: Tata Trent Face Wash Tube

3D Neopac’s design for Tata Trent’s face wash tube stood out in the “Innovations Leading to Sustainability” category. Designed with the latest sustainability trends in mind, this laminated tube has a reduced wall thickness of 390 microns. This design choice results in a significant 23.6% reduction in the use of virgin plastic.

The tube is made of HDPE (high-density polyethylene), a material known for its recyclability. This not only aligns with green initiatives, but also empowers consumers to play a role in promoting a circular economy.

But sustainability isn’t its only strength. The tube’s design incorporates a hybrid printing technique that combines the benefits of digital and flexographic printing. This allows for stunning graphics, intricate detail and vibrant colors. By choosing HDPE over EVOH, 3D Neopac ensures the tube is environmentally friendly, cost effective and reliable without sacrificing quality.

Aesthetic mastery: CavinKare’s Bikers Face Wash Tube

In the Best Branding through Packaging category, the tube designed for CavinKare’s Bikers men’s face wash caught the jury’s eye. This tube features an intriguing blend of screen and flexographic printing techniques, resulting in a visually stunning appearance. A notable feature is its 360-degree hot foil effect, which conveys elegance and luxury from every perspective. This exquisite detail sets it apart in a saturated market.

The Bikers face wash tube is not just about looks. With a robust 550 micron thickness and an EVOH layer, it embodies a rugged yet sophisticated charm. This design ensures product longevity, protection and stability on the shelf.

Sourced from local India-based supplier, tubes can comprise up to 28% post-consumer recycled content.

Mumbai, India3D Neopac, a global provider of tube packaging for cosmetics and health care, and the India-based subsidiary of Hoffmann Neopac of Switzerland, will introduce a range of post-consumer recycled content tubes sourced from an India-based material supplier at the Contract Manufacturing & Private Label Exhibition, May 4-5 in Mumbai. At Booth C-8, the company will showcase an extension of its EcoDesign portfolio that can comprise up to 28% PCR content, and is available in diameters ranging from 19-50 millimeters.

To produce the new tubes, mechanically recycled materials are sandwiched between layers of conventional polyethylene. As soon as this summer, 3D Neopac’s India-based PCR materials supplier is aiming for FDA-NOL certification, which would allow product contact with the material and hence to add an EVOH barrier to the PE tube for enhanced protection of the formulas.

A prominent India-based skin, hair and oral care products provider, ARATA, has already agreed to utilize 3D Neopac’s new PCR tubes.

“3D Neopac is excited to offer these new recycled content tubes, which we believe will take substantial strides toward our circular economy efforts, and serve as an encouraging example of plastic waste reduction in India,” said Anant Gadre, Managing Director of 3D Neopac. “We also are proud that a well-known, forward-thinking personal care products company like ARATA has agreed to utilize these new PCR tube solutions.”

The new tubes join an ever-growing family of Neopac Group’s sustainability-minded EcoDesign products, including PaperX fiber-based Tube, which drastically reduces both plastic materials use and overall carbon footprint; and a Lightweight range offering thin-walled tubes and SlimLine caps.

PaperX Tube significantly reduces plastic materials and overall carbon footprint

3D Neopac, member of Hoffmann Neopac Group, a global provider of high-quality packaging and dosing applications for pharma, beauty and oral care, has introduced its PaperX Tube series, which utilizes fiber-based laminate to drastically reduce both plastic materials use and overall carbon footprint. Ideal for organic and natural personal care and cosmetic products, the next-generation eco-friendly tubes contain 46% less plastics than conventional tubes, leading to a 24% drop in CO2 emissions.

Potential applications for Neopac’s new PaperX Tube include sun care lotions, body and face care creams, and toothpaste. Available with flip-top closures, the tubes are offered in diameters ranging from 35-50 millimeters, and can house products in volumes from 40-250 milliliters. While early generations of paper tubes had limitations in filling and sealing, PaperX Tube makes no compromise: they can be easily filled and sealed on standard tube filling lines.

Featuring soft texture and tactile qualities, PaperX Tube provide an inviting experience for consumers both at the point of purchase and at home. For optimal aesthetics, Neopac’s high-resolution digital and flexo printing technologies can be used to achieve ornate branded designs. To customize tube artwork, variable data printing also can be utilized – providing attractive options for special promotions.

“The PaperX Tubes enable an ultra-sustainable image and touchpoint for products, showcasing a brand’s corporate responsibility to increasingly environmentally-conscious consumers,” said Mark Aegler, CEO of Hoffmann Neopac Group. “Hoffmann Neopac is committed to building a sustainable future by providing innovative, environmentally friendly packaging solutions which are produced with renewable energy.”

Notably, PaperX Tubes fall into a growing category of blended paper/plastic solutions for which recycling is yet to be clearly defined in every country. Recycling authorities in various geographies are currently conducting efforts to build appropriate streams for this new crop of sustainable packaging. In addition, Neopac is currently developing low-profile caps and shoulderless concepts for the PaperX Tubes.

Your 3D Neopac Team

Mumbai, India – 3D Neopac, a global provider of tube packaging for cosmetics and health care, and part of the Hoffmann Neopac Group in Switzerland, has further strengthened the capabilities set for its signature SpringTube™ packaging solutions. Fresh off becoming an officially registered brand in India, 3D Neopac has upgraded its on-site manufacturing technology with two additional flexo decoration stations and will now also get a new Tube Line for capacity extension.

The infrastructure investment further bolsters the company’s metallic, flexo and digital decoration capabilities. Notably, due to COVID protocols, the influx of ultra-modern equipment was deftly installed and validated by 3D Neopac’s internal personal, with virtual assistance from its machinery partners. The result is an even wider range of custom decoration, including pearl effects, ornate finishes and spot colors plus a capacity extension with a new tube line of 50 MM tubes.

In terms of sustainability, this year, India’s Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change issued a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) notification for plastic waste management that covers reuse, recycling and use of recycled plastic content, as well as end-of-life disposal by producers, importers and brand owners. For tubes, actionable items include reducing packaging weight (light-weighing), increasing recyclability (mono-material/PE), using recyclates, and replacing certain plastics with paper.

3D Neopac will market various eco-design adaptions of its tube portfolio. Examples include mono-material PE tubes and tubes with locally sourced post-consumer recycled (PCR) content. In fact, 3D Neopac’s laminating machine is capable of processing the PCR quality available in India.

Notably, 3D Neopac has reduced the wall thickness of its COEX and SpringTube™ series by up to 23% in the sleeve (up to 35% in coextruded versions), while maintaining its important barrier properties and esthetic aspects. Its varied decorative options offer almost unlimited design and customization possibilities, eliminating the need for labels through low-migration, eco-friendly direct printing on a mono-material structure.

Variable printing options allow products using SpringTube™ to be customized down to the unit level, and its flat extruded design yields extremely precise layer thickness. Building upon this, in the near-term 3D Neopac will introduce additional SpringTube™ components including a new lightweight, HDPE slim flip-top cap.

In addition, late last year 3D Neopac debuted SpringTube™ Kraft, a paper tube concept comprised of paper/plastic compound. Despite being a concept whose collection mechanism has not yet been cleared in many countries, the fiber-based packaging it espouses is considered an attractive option to replace plastics where appropriate.

Finally, at 3D Neopac plastic and barrier tubes and components are produced in-house – an advantage that significantly mitigates supply chain issues. Its plant’s expansive tubes solution capacity also provides reassurance to customers in a still-unpredictable post-pandemic market.

With benefits for consumers, brand owners and manufacturers, turnkey solution combines ease of adoption, shelf appeal and versatility.

Mumbai, India3D Neopac, a global provider of tube packaging for cosmetics and health care, has won a Star Award from the Indian Flexible Packaging & Folding Carton Manufacturers Association (IFCA) for a customer project involving its SpringTube® solution. Specially designed to maintain its shape while delivering a host of additional benefits for consumers, brand owners and manufacturers, the tube was utilized by Nykaa for its Wanderlust line of scented body scrubs.

Featuring a push-on PP flip-top cap, the printer-friendly SpringTube™ can be decorated via digital, flexo or coldfoil processes. For product protection, an ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) barrier preserves oxygen-sensitive formulas, and helps extend the shelf life of beauty and personal care products.

For Nykaa, 3D Neopac’s solution comprised a tube 40mm in diameter with a 25-micron EVOH barrier. The tubes are printed through a hybrid flexo-digital process in which a single vignette is flexo-printed onto a transparent tube – giving the illusion of a colored substrate – then combined with high-resolution digital images showcasing the specific product variety (i.e. Strawberry Daiquiri). Gold-colored foil helps complete the eye-catching look.

In addition to exemplary aesthetics, SpringTube™ also offers sustainability potential. Brand owners utilizing the solutions can incorporate lower thickness films (down to 300 microns), and mono-material structures also are possible. Kraft paper materials are another EcoDesign option.

Available in fill volumes from 40-275ml, 3D Neopac’s SpringTube™ offers differentiating benefits to multiple stakeholders, including:

Manufacturers – SpringTube™ is flat extruded with an EVOH barrier for longer shelf life, and accurate thickness control guarantees smooth processing and dimensional stability. 3D Neopac extrudes and direct prints the solution’s substrate, and mounts the tube’s shoulder and cap – an inhouse, turnkey production process lending itself to efficiency.

Consumers – Since the SpringTube’s unique composition maintains the tube’s shape during use, the solution shows well both on shelves and, in forums such as online demos, on camera. The tube’s easy-open caps, which also are available with a tamper-evident sleeve feature, provide additional safety and user-friendliness. In addition, individualized coding can be applied to each tube for consumer participation in competitions, local events, special rebates or collector series.

Brand owners – Featuring superior graphics and aesthetics compared to tubes decorated with lithographic labels or offset colors, the direct-to-print SpringTube™ offers brand owners an array of customizable design options like digital print, flexo print and metallic foiling – all in a seamless 360° degree look. SpringTube™ can feature colored or metalized caps and offers high flexibility properties to replace existing label tubes. SpringTube™ can be individualized down to the unit level by variable data printing, allowing brands to create on-package marketing activities such as sales promotions, competitions, collectables or games.

“As our work with valued customers like Nykaa shows, SpringTube offers a welcome combination of user-friendliness, versatility and unique design options,” says Anant Gadre, Managing Director at 3D Neopac India. “Such innovation further demonstrates 3D Neopac’s commitment to best serving the needs of local and international customers as well as other stakeholders throughout the product lifespan.”
